Fire Door Inspections

Inspection of existing fire doors with documented condition checks, photographs and clear reporting for commercial and managed properties.

Practical checks to help keep fire doors in good working order.

Fire doors form an important part of a building's fire safety arrangements. Over time, wear, damage, alterations and day-to-day use can affect the door, frame, closer, seals, hardware and the way the door closes into its frame.

Our Fire Door Inspection service provides commercial clients, facilities teams, landlords and property managers with a structured condition inspection of existing fire doors and a clear record of defects, observations and recommended follow-up actions.

Inspection checks can include

  • Door leaf, frame and surrounding condition
  • Visible damage, distortion or unauthorised alterations
  • Door gaps against the applicable inspection criteria
  • Intumescent strips and smoke seals where present
  • Hinges, fixings and other ironmongery
  • Self-closing device operation and whether the door closes correctly
  • Locks, latches and relevant door hardware
  • Glazing and glazing systems where fitted
  • Fire door signage where required
  • Evidence of doors being wedged or prevented from closing
  • Photographs and recorded observations
This service is for inspection of existing fire doors. It does not include the initial inspection or sign-off of newly installed fire doors, and inspection does not automatically include repair or installation work.

Clear records for the Responsible Person

Each inspection identifies the door, records the condition found and makes any defects or action-required items easy to understand. Depending on the agreed scope, records can include door location or asset reference, photographs, measurements or observations where relevant, inspection findings and recommended next steps.

Fire doors can present different types and levels of defect, limitation or concern. The report records what was observed, why it matters and what action should be considered by the Responsible Person, rather than reducing complex findings to a single overall label.

If a defect needs specialist repair, replacement, further assessment or confirmation against original fire performance evidence, that will be highlighted rather than treated as automatically resolved by the inspection.

Who the service is for

The service is suitable for schools and education sites, care settings, offices, hospitality, landlords, managing agents, commercial buildings and other organisations responsible for maintaining fire doors.

Inspection frequency

The appropriate inspection programme depends on the building, fire risk assessment, door type, use and applicable legal or site requirements. Certain multi-occupied residential buildings in England have specific routine fire-door checking duties, while other premises should manage fire doors as part of their wider fire-safety maintenance arrangements.

Fire Door Inspection FAQs

Common questions

Do you provide Fire Door Inspections?

Yes. HPM Compliance provides inspections of existing fire doors for commercial and managed properties across South Yorkshire and surrounding areas by arrangement.

What will you check?

The inspection can cover the door leaf and frame, visible damage, gaps, strips and seals where present, hinges, closer, locks and latches, glazing, signage, alterations and whether the door closes correctly.

How are inspection findings reported?

Each door is recorded individually using condition findings, identified defects, limitations and recommended actions where relevant. This gives the Responsible Person a clear record of what was observed and what may need attention.

Will you certify newly installed fire doors?

No. This service does not cover the initial inspection and sign-off of newly installed fire doors.

Will repairs be included?

No. Inspection and reporting do not automatically include repair or installation work. Defects requiring remedial work will be recorded for the Responsible Person to act on.

Can you inspect multiple sites?

Yes. The service can be organised by site and door reference for customers managing multiple properties or recurring inspection programmes.
